Assessment within the welcome phase for migrants: needs’ analysis and placement

ALTE and the LAMI (Language Assessment for Migration and Integration) Special Interest Group are inviting you to this one-day training where you’ll learn and exchange ideas on the topic of language assessment for newly arrived migrants.

Apart from discussing and discovering the theory which LAMI has gathered, you will also find out about practical tools used for rating performance.

The course is aimed at language teachers and assessors from across Europe, who either have some experience, or are looking for a place to start learning about language assessment for migration purposes.

The tutors of this one-day course are the members of the LAMI SIG: Lorenzo Rocca, Dina Vilcu and Anna Mouti.

The programme of the course is: 

1. Welcome phase: definition and round table to collect experiences/information about how this phase is in place in the different countries.
2. Aims and challenges of the welcome phase.
3. Types of assessment present in the welcome phase.
4. Multilingual LAMI tools (LLAT 1 and 2) at disposal for:
   • Needs’ analysis
   • Placement – literacy and language profile
5. Familiarization with the tools:
6. Integration of LLAT with other Council of Europe resources: 3 tools from the new Language Support for Migrants (LSM) Toolkit.
7. Applicability of the package presented to the different contexts: What should be adapted? What is missing?
8. Conclusion and final discussion.

For group bookings, ALTE advises to book maximum three places per institution. 

Payment is in full when registering. Payment can be made online using a Visa, MasterCard or American Express.
If you cannot pay with a credit/debit card please contact the ALTE Services Unit: servicesunit@alte.org. We will then issue an invoice and a bank transfer will be possible.

In case of cancellation up until one month before the start of the events, the full amount will be refunded minus an €50 administration fee. If you have received the course book, you do not need to return this if cancelling. However, in the case of cancellation after this date, no refunds can be made.
