The Yunus Emre Institute was established to promote Türkiye, its cultural legacy, the Turkish language, its culture, and art, as well as to strengthen Türkiye’s relations and fellowships with other countries. With a specific focus on education, science, culture, and arts, the Institute aims to promote cultural interaction and serve those interested in learning about Turkish culture, language, and arts. While the Institute pursues its mission of increasing the recognition, credibility, and prestige of Türkiye in the international arena, it also aims to increase the number of people who form bonds and friendships with Türkiye across the world.

Türkçe Yeterlik Sınavı (TYS)- The Turkish Proficiency Exam

Yunus Emre Institute has taken the first important step in Türkiye to develop an exam that evaluates Turkish language skills based on the relevant standards. Türkçe Yeterlik Sınavı (TYS), developed by the Yunus Emre Institute and applied since 2013, has been certified (Q-Mark) by the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) and became the first and only language test of Türkiye that holds international recognized. The Exam Centre of the Yunus Emre Institute has launched a CEFR-based international examination called “Türkçe Yeterlik Sınavı” (TYS) in accordance with the proficiency definitions and standards of The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The four language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) are assessed in the TYS. The exam fulfills the objective of measuring and documenting the Turkish language proficiency of individuals who learn Turkish as a foreign or second language.
